She attended school in Douglass, TX and graduated from Douglass High School in 1952. She then attended college at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX earning her bachelor's degree in teaching. She taught school for one year in Odessa, TX before moving to Hobbs, NM in 1957 where she continued her career as a teacher. She met and married Dr. Bill D. Lee on November 27th, 1957 in Hobbs, NM and taught in Floyd and Clovis while her husband was in college at ENMU in Portales, NM. In August of 1965 they adopted a son, Jeffrey A. She taught Language Arts and English at all three of Hobbs' Junior High schools (Houston, Highland and Heizer) until she retired in 1991. She touched the lives of literally thousands of students, teaching the fundamentals of reading, writing and grammar. She was proud of her 34 years as an educator and rarely could leave the house without a young adult saying, "Mrs. Lee" or "Mrs. Wilson" do you remember.....? While known as an educator, her first calling was to minister to people and tell them about her Lord and Savior. She was active in First Christian Church and lifted her voice in praise each Sunday. She loved God's gifts of nature and enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, and long drives in the country.
