Mrs. Willie Teeter, 100, was born March 14, 1906. She was four days short of her 101st birthday.
She was a member of Fellowship of Believers church.
Willie was born on a farm near Gracemont, Okla. Willie spent most of her life teachshy;ing. She taught public school for 5 12 years in a two-room schoolhouse. She taught chilshy;dren from first through fourth grades in Oklahoma. She met R.L. Teeter and they later married and had two sons. Willie lived in several great places including Cowgill, Mo.; Roswell, N.M.; Lovington, N.M.; and Humble City, N.M.
In 1959 she moved to Hobbs and began teaching day care and kindergarten out of her home for children ages 3 to 5. She retired from teaching in 1975.
Willie's life was spent helpshy;ing children. After retiring she was approached by memshy;bers of the Asbury Methodist Church to teach kindergarten Sunday school. Her first class had 25 children. She taught Sunday school until she retired in 1989 at the age of 82.
Willie was always an active member of the United Women's Society of the church and Young at Heart. Willie and Frank Pye started the Hobbs Senior Olympics in 1985. She won several Senior olympic medals throughout the years. In 1989 she went to National Senior Olympics in St. Louis where she brought home the gold medal in horseshy;shoes.
She started then ran the Adult Singles Club for 25 years. She was also a member of the Singing and Swinging Kitchen Band of the Adult Senior Center, which pershy;formed each Wednesday.
Willie is survived by her sons, James Edgar and his wife Virginia Teeter of Hobbs, N.M., Aubrey Ray and his wife Betty Teeter of Hobbs; a brother, Woodrow L. Gassaway of Hobbs; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-shy;grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Willie was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and a brother.
