Funeral services for William Basel Monsey, 82, of Hobbs will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Russell Hill, VistaCare Hospice chapshy;lain, will be officiating and Pastor Shawn Drake of Bel Air Baptist Church will be providshy;ing the eulogy.
Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
W. B. Moshy;nsey, lovingshy;ly known as Monsey, left his earthly home on May 28 to join family and his Lord in heaven. He was born in Stamford, Texas, on August 31, 1925. He and his wife, Lucille Houser Monsey, were married for 66 years. They were joined in marriage in Coleman, Texas, on July 11, 1941.
He was a WWII Army veteran and served in Germany from 1944 to 1946. The family moved to Hobbs in 1955 where Monsey worked in the oil industry. He and his wife later owned the Winslow Cafe on Broadway. They have been members of the Bel Aire Baptist Church since 1957. His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of the home; a son, Jimmy Ray Monsey and wife Wynona of Levelland, Texas; a daughter, Janet E. Wheeler of Hobbs; a son, Jerry Lynn Monsey, Sr. his wife Donna of El Paso, Tx.; a son, Jess Monsey of Hobbs; a sister, Gay Buske of Lovington; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Monsey was preceded in death by his parents, W.B. Monsey, Sr. and Opal Pearl Moon Monsey; a daughter, Linda Joyce Monsey; a granddaughter, Cherie Kay Monsey; a grandson, Billy John Monsey; a grandson James Edward Monsey; a brother, Leslie Monsey; and a sister Billie Francis Monsey.
