William Ervin Maness entered into eternal rest on Nov. 15, 2015. He was born on January 24, 1938 in Taylor, Arkansas to Edward Lee Maness and Bernice Irene Gore. He was raised in Springhill, LA and graduated from Springhill High school in 1955.
He moved to Hobbs in 1961 and worked as a roustabout until suffering a back injury. He enrolled in college at NMJC and continued his accounting degree at Eastern New Mexico University. After graduating, he went to work as an accountant for Monument Well Service in Lovington, NM. In 1990, he began a career as a teacher and coach for Hobbs High School. He retired as a teacher and coach in 2002 due to failing health.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 sisters; Jean Stewart and Charlotte Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edna Maness, 2 daughters; Jolene Kleinsteuber and husband Erich of Midland, TX and Shannon Ramirez and husband Alvin of Hobbs, 1 son; Scott May and wife Christy of Buffalo, NY, 1 brother-in-law; Charles Allen of Hobbs, NM, 6 grandchildren; Michael Bostick and wife Bobbie, Chad Kleinsteuber and wife Kathy, Kerrie Owings and husband Ross all of Midland, TX, Jonathan Bostick and wife Mandie of Hobbs, NM, Paul Ramirez and wife Mona and Gabriel Ramirez and wife Crystal all of Las Cruces, NM. He had 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His greatest passion was being a coach, umpire and teacher. He loved all his students.
