William Barlow

August 10, 1931 — January 7, 2012

W. R. Luke Barlow, age 80, passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning, January 7, surrounded by his loving family after losing an almost 7year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Christophers Episcopal Church, 207 E. Permian. The family will receive visitors in the parish hall following the service. There will not be a viewing as his wish for cremation will be carried out. Services are provided by Chapel of Hope, 3321 N Dal Paso, Hobbs NM 88240.
Luke was bortn in Springfield, MO, on August 10, 1931. Upon graduation from high school, he moved to Hobbs to be near his brother, Glen. He was drafted into the army and served overseas from 1952 to 1954. Upon his discharge, he worked with Bethlehem Steel for several years as a field salesman. With a passion for bowling, Luke spent time in the late 50s and early 60s as a professional bowler, at one time ranking sixth in the national for rolling an 800 series. He was a member of the Fort Worth Panthers Professional Bowling Team which was a part of the National Bowling League. His first of eight perfect 300 games began on October 16, 1959. He met Modena Phillips in 1954 and married her on September 7, 1956, in Hobbs. He managed BelAire Bowl for over 30 years. In addition to bowling, Luke was an avid golfer, sports fan and an active member of St. Christophers Episcopal Church. He is loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Modena daughters, Jan Fletcher, Kristy Mosley, and husband Jeff, all of Hobbs, and Lyn Weeks, and husband Tom, of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, Angela Sloan, Amanda Serna, Tyler Fletcher and Cooper, Myka and Alexa Mosley, all of Hobbs and Zachary, Libby and Ryan Weeks of Albuquerque as well as his great grandchildren, Lilli and Luci Sloan and Sylas Serna of Hobbs. He also has a nephew, John Barlow, and wife Joan of Annapolis Maryland, and a great niece, Marisa, and husband Ben Adamson, of Omaha, NE.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Floyd and Jennie Ethel Barlow of Lebanon, Missouri, and stepmother, Pearl Barlow of Lebanon, MO, brother and sisterinlaw, Glen and Mary Barlow of Hobbs and a sister, Helen, who died in infancy.
In lieu of lowers, the family graciously requests that donations be made either to St. Christophers Episcopal Church or the Lea County Animal Humane Society, PO Box 1192, Hobbs, NM 88241. The family would like to thank Star Care Hospice for their dignified and caring service, especially Ashlee.
