Virginia Hobby Meekins, 94, died after a lengthy illness on December 22, 2016, in Hobbs, NM. Virginia and her identical twin sister Edna were born August 14, 1922, in Tulsa, OK, to Kelsey Ross Hobby and Nellie Springer Hobby.
Virginia is predeceased by her parents; her husband of 62 years, J. Otis Meekins, Jr.; her daughter Marquita Bradshaw; her grandson James Bradshaw; her brothers John Hobby and Ret. Col. Thomas Hobby; and her guardian and caregiver, Judy Bradshaw.
Virginia is survived by her sons, John Meekins III (Eleanor/Ellie) of Columbus, OH, and David Meekins of Lubbock, TX; her son-in-law Thomas Bradshaw, Hobbs, NM; her twin sister Edna Smithline, Tulsa, OK; her sister-in-law, Bobby Hobby of Austin, TX; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Virginia and her husband Otis moved to Hobbs from Seminole, OK, in 1953 for the health of their children's asthma and other breathing issues, which vanished after settling in Hobbs. The entire family loved Hobbs. Her husband Otis worked for the post office in Hobbs for many years and after retirement served as a municipal judge for several terms in Hobbs.
Virginia worked as a beautician for Lona's Beauty Salon in Hobbs for more than 20 years until she retired. She loved life, was an avid reader her entire life, loved art, music, and painted beautiful pictures which today are proudly displayed in her family's homes. Virginia belonged to many organizations, and she started a Cancer Support Group in Hobbs after surviving a serious bout of cancer. She was a devout member of St. Helena Church in Hobbs for more than 60 years, where she served on church committees and made many, many friends.
