Virginia “Momo” Cole, 97, of Hobbs, NM, went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2022. Born August 19, 1924, in Winters, Texas, to Farill and Romye Brown, they moved to Lamb County, Texas in the 1930’s where she graduated high school before moving for a short time to Portland, Oregon then returning to Levelland where she married Lyston (L.W.) Cole. Following the oilfields, they lived across West Texas and New Mexico before settling in Hobbs in 1956.
Virginia was a homemaker as well as, clerked for many years at Gibson’s, JC Penney, and Dunlap’s. She was a strong, feisty, and independent woman who loved her family with all her heart, especially all her grandchildren. She was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed telling stories of her youth and caring for livestock and work on the farm growing up. In her later years, she and Lyston raised a few cows and gardened North of Hobbs and more recently enjoyed watching Bobby and Seth as they roped, irrigated, and trained their horses and Cale as she took care of her 4-H animals. She enjoyed telling her daily observations as she spoke to all her grandkids on the phone regularly and reminisced about the travels, she made visiting them throughout the years.
More recently she had moved to Good Life and made friends with the staff and residents there.
Virginia was preceded in death by Lyston in 1987, her parents, brothers Leon, Kilgore, TX, and Bob, Whiteface, TX, a daughter Patsy Lynn Teague and son-in-law Lad, Hobbs, NM, she is survived by sister Nita Hinz, Levelland, daughter Vickie Cox (Bobby), Hobbs, nephew Randall Faircloth, Tye, TX. Momo is also survived by grandchildren Carleton Wayne Teague (Shanda) Virginia Beach, VA, Shad Cox (Trish), Corona, NM, Romye LeeAnne Bennett (Justin), Glendale, AZ, and Seth Cox (Debbie), Hobbs. Great-Grandchildren; Brittnay Teague, Lubbock, TX, Alex Teague (Mariah), Virginia Beach, VA, Samantha Manuel, Yukon, Ok, Cutler Cox, Las Cruces, Cutter Edwards, Hobbs, Conner Cox, Rapid City, SD, Cabel Cox, Stillwater, OK, JoiLynn Bennett, Jamey Bennett, both of Glendale, AZ, Cale Cox, Hobbs, and Jevan Bennertt, Glendale, AZ. Great-great grandchildren Landon Scharin, Andrew Teague, Kelbi Edwards, and a great-great granddaughter to be born in September. As well as many friends and the entire Cox family she held dear as family as well.
