Vernon E. Cannon of Hobbs died Thursday evening February 17, 2011,at his home. He was born April 9, 1929, in McCullough Co., TX, to Thomas L. and Annie Iola Crumley Cannon.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, in the Chapel of Hope Chapel with Pastor Brad Reimers officiating. Burial will take place at 4:00 p.m. CST Monday, February 21, 2001, in the Trinity Memorial Park Cemetery in Big Spring, TX, with Pastor Walter McCade officiating.
Vernon served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1953, stationed at Barbers Point Naval Air Station, Oahu, HI, as Engineman Petty Officer 3rd Class and Chauffeur to Admiral William T. Rassieur. He married Doris W. Miller on June 18, 1955, in the Big Spring, TX, First Baptist Church and they moved to Hobbs in 1958. Vernon was a member of Northside Baptist Church Crosswinds Community Church and a devoted Christian, husband, father and grandfather. Vernon was an avid gardener and he loved quail hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of the home two sons, V. Eldon Cannon and wife Denise of Hobbs, NM, G. Scott Cannon and wife Pattie of Las Cruces, NM a brother T.L. Cannon and wife Janet of Seattle, WA two sisters, Audie Blackburn and husband JR of Everton, AR, and Pearl Ivey of San Antonio, TX 6 grandchildren, Patricia Clagg of Yukon, OK, Jimmy Cannon of Enid OK, Matthew Cannon of Las Cruces, NM, Holly Cannon of Las Cruces, NM, Joel Cannon of Las Cruces, NM, Linsie Cannon of Hobbs, NM two greatgrandchildren, Shea and Brianna of Yukon, OK.
Vernon was preceded by his parents, Thomas and Annie Cannon two sisters, Lucy V. Cannon and Jean Bryton and a brother, Carrol Cannon.
The family would like to thank the caregivers Casey, Amparo, Davi and well as Vista Care Hospice. Memorial contributions can be made in Vernons name to the New Mexico Baptist Childrens Home, PO Box 629, Portales, NM 88130.
