Vergie Jackson went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 22, 2008. She was born in Wellington, Texas on July 25, 1909, to Mary Jane and Enoch Langford.
Vergie married Roy Jackson in 1936 and they moved to Hobbs, N.M., where they raised their four daughters and farmed in Knowles community until his death in 1970. Due to the Knowles community being withshy;out a church, Vergie was instrumental in starting Bethel Baptist Church where she remained a charter member until her death. During her service at Bethel, she was the pianist for 25 years, she taught Sunday school and Bible school.
Vergie was a Pink Lady at Lea Regional Medical Center for 15 years and was a member of the Grandmother's Club. Vergie loved God and her famishy;ly and she spent many enjoyshy;able hours at birthday parties and family gatherings.
Vergie is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Hicks of Hobbs, N.M., Carol Ann Thompson and son-in-law Gene of Hobbs, N.M., and Rae Dean Morris of Lubbock, Texas; five grandchildren, Roy Hicks Felicia, Charlotte Cusic Chip, Mike Thompson Cheron, Karen Taylor Brett and Jeanne Clack; seven greatshy;grandchildren, Brittany and Kirby Taylor of Amarillo, Texas, and Kelby and Kallum Clack, Chelby Hinds, Cody and Taylor Thompson, all of Hobbs, N.M.
Vergie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; a daughshy;ter, Jeanne Foust; a son-in-law, J.W Hicks; her parents; and eight sisters and brothers.
Funeral services will be held Friday; April 25, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church on the Denver City Highway. The Rev. Jimmy Crawford will officiate.
Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
