Vergie Chappell-Volker

May 22, 1950 — November 2, 2016

Vergie Mae Volker, 66, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Covenant Health in Lubbock, Texas.

Mrs. Volker, daughter of Zula Mae and Thomas James Chappell of Kosse, was born on May 22, 1950 in Rosebud, TX. She graduated from Carson California and lived in Utah, Texas, New Mexico and American Samoa.

Vergie was a very loving and caring person who had a heart of gold. She moved to American Samoa at the age of 18 to teach English. She soaked up the culture, became fluent in the Samoan language and was loved by the people of the islands. She embraced life's beauty in everything she saw and touched.

She was a long-time resident of Waco, TX before moving to Hobbs, NM in 2009.

Vergie is survived by her husband of 21 years, Kenneth Ray Volker. Ken was her best friend and soulmate who showed her what unconditional love meant.

She is survived by her five children: Anvorak Flame, Arcturish Faletogo, Avis Pilkinton, Aragon Faletogo and Fawn Faletogo-Shaw. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jae, Marcus, James, Malosi, Shian, Taylor, Christian, Aragon, and her great-grandson Aidyn.

Vergie was an avid movie collector who was passionate about caring for her two fur-babies Lobo and Star, playing the casino and zealously decorating for the holidays. She made an impact in the lives of the people she touched and will be dearly missed.
