Vera Faye Capps, 94, of Hobbs, NM, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023. Faye was born on New Years Day, January 1, 1929, to Chester and Vera Biggs in Eola, TX.
In her 94 years of life, Faye lived every moment to its fullest. She married Gene Capps on May 1, 1954, in Eldorado, TX and moved to Hobbs, NM the same year. Faye absolutely loved rocks, gems, minerals, and fossils which led her to earn a Bachelor of Sciences in Mineralogy and Paleontology. Faye’s love for the endless wonder of a child’s imagination inspired her to earn a Master’s in Education from Texas Tech University after which she taught elementary school in Hobbs. She traveled the globe absorbing fascinating cultures and looking for the best minerals and fossils the world had to offer. An unwavering believer and lover of nature, Faye was quick to point out the beauty in the mundane. “Look at the pretty bird,” she’d say. “And aren’t we blessed by God to have eyes to see it.”
Faye was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years Gene Capps, her sister Bonnie Reese, and brother Bud Biggs.
Survivors include her two sons, Quinn and his wife Polly, and Scott Capps; two grandchildren Olivia Capps, and Madison and her husband CJ Willard, and two great-grandchildren Hank and Iris Willard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you make donations in Faye's memory to your church or favorite charity.
