Tyler James Fletcher, 27, of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away at his home February 10, 2015. He was born January 19, 1988 in Hobbs, to Jamie and Jan Fletcher. Since he was a child, Tyler showed an interest in, and an aptitude for, all things mechanical, electronic, or simply puzzling. From dismantling and reassembling a bicycle, to tearing down and examining a radio's parts, or teaching himself how to operate, program, and take advantage of a computer, he never gave up until he found the answer he was seeking.
In elementary school he was called upon to help instruct teachers in the art of computer use. In junior high he coordinated a sound and light system he created for an annual talent show. As a member of the first Heizer freshman school class, he was able to take advantage of a new tech lab to further expand his knowledge, interest and inquisitiveness. Through high school he continued to grow and learn in the fields of audio, video, and computer technology, and worked for a local sound and lighting company, setting up stage shows and concerts in this area, and later in Albuquerque. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 2006.
The day after graduation, his parents helped him move to Albuquerque, where he was already enrolled in a film school at Technical Vocational Institute. After only one year in the program, he was already spending time on actual film sets in the area, impressing people with his abilities. He was then hired full time to work on several major motion pictures, including "In the Valley of Elah", "Love Lies Bleeding", "The Book of Eli", "The Spy Next Door", "Legion", and "Love Ranch". His travels took him from his base in Albuquerque to Nevada, Tennessee, Southern New Mexico, Morocco, and China for film work. He also was a member of the film crew for "Easy Money", a short lived television series filmed in Albuquerque. More information on these productions and Tyler's involvement can be viewed on the internet site IMDB.com.
His work with Jackie Chan in "The Spy Next Door" led to his being included by Chan's production group in the remake of "The Karate Kid", filmed in and around Beijing in 2010. After completion of that film, and after returning to his home, he was contacted by Jackie Chan to come back to China to join Jackie's production team as an employee, and worked as a videographer for Mr. Chan for about 7 months. Tyler considered this somewhat of a crowning achievement in his young career.
After the film industry in Albuquerque hit a slow spell, Tyler returned to his hometown of Hobbs, where he began working for a local security and alarm company. He was eventually hired by the Hobbs Schools full time as an IT and Security coordinator.
Tyler loved, befriended, and touched so many people in his own way. We have received many heartwarming messages, reinforcing our belief that he was a very loving friend who constantly dedicated himself to the current task at hand. Our most fervent prayer is that Tyler recognized this about himself, and knows that he was loved by so many. We love you, Tyler, our son and brother, more than you could ever comprehend.
Tyler was preceded in death by his grandfathers, W. R. (Luke) Barlow, and E. J. (Elmer) Fletcher, and his grandmother, Mary Lou Fletcher. He leaves to cherish his memory his grandmother, Modena Barlow, and his mother, Jan (Barlow) Fletcher, both of Hobbs; his father, Jamie Fletcher and wife Bonnie, of Midland, Texas; his sisters, Angela Sloan and Amanda Serna, nephew Sylas Serna, and nieces Lillian and Luci Sloan, all of Hobbs. Also surviving Tyler are his Aunt Kristy and Uncle Jeff Mosley, and cousins Cooper, Myka, and Alexa Mosely, of Hobbs; and his Aunt Lyn and Uncle Tom Weeks, and cousins Zack, Libby and Ryan Weeks of Albuquerque.
