Truett King Newell
Born July 30,1937, in Greenville, Texas to Mary and Roscoe Newell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, died peacefully on July 8, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Sandra Newell siblings J.C. Newell of Garden City, Texas, Lewis and Phylis Newell of Urbandale, Iowa, and Donald and Barbara Newell of Prosper, Texas two sons Michael Newell of Lovington, New Mexico., Edward Newell and wife Kelley Newell of Anthem, Arizona four grandchildren Tim Newell of Hobbs, New Mexico, Alex Pando and husband Arthur Pando of Lovington, New Mexico, Lauren Newell of Tempe, Arizona, and Weston Newell of La Verne, California three great grandchildren Timmy Newell, Mia Pando, and Bronx Pando. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Roscoe Jr. Newell, Wesley and Helen Newell and Doralee Newell.
Truett graduated from Big Spring High School, Big Spring, Texas graduated from Howard College in Big Spring, Texas and graduated from West Texas AM in Canyon, Texas. Truett was inducted into the sports Hall of Fame at Howard College for baseball. He played baseball and also served as President of his fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha while attending West Texas A M. Met his wife Sandra and they have been married for 53 years.
Truett returned to his alma mater, Big Spring High School as a coach before entering the oil field business with Nalco Chemical Company. He had a great career with Nalco before retiring in Hobbs, New Mexico. He became the workstudy program teacher at Hobbs High School. He retired from Hobbs Municipal Schools and most recently worked at Lowes Home Improvement.
Truett loved coaching his sons sports teams and was a positive influence to many young lives. He and Sandra also served as the 1 fan club to all of their grand children and greatgrandchildren.
Memorial Mass services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., July 16, 2013, at Saint Helena Catholic Church in Hobbs, New Mexico. A Rosary will be Monday, 6:00 p.m., July 15 at Chapel of Hope. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution be made to the Boys and Girls Club, 212 E. Dunnam, Hobbs, New Mexico.
