Travis Wade Collins passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, February 26th 2023. Travis was born in 1972 in Hobbs to Patrick Collins and the late Marla Bood Weber. He attended Mills Elementary school before moving to Roswell NM, where he graduated from Goddard High School in 1991. He enlisted in the Navy and served one tour before returning to Hobbs where he worked for the Hobbs Fire Department, first as an officer, then an EMT-1, Driver Engineer and retiring as a Captain in 2016. He was proud to follow in the footsteps of his PaPa, Captain BJ Bood. Travis also continued his time in the Navy as Naval Reservist for more than 20 years. He was deployed to Iraq in 2005 with the Joint Special Operation Task Force and again in 2009 to Afghanistan as a Vehicle Commander and Vehicle Gunner. Upon retirement, he worked in the oil field for various companies as a safety consultant. Recently he was elected as the Junior Vice Commander at the local VFW Post 3274.
Travis was known for his big laugh and big heart. He was willing to help anyone at any time. He kept in touch with his friends from his high school football team who have lots of stories to share about their shenanigans. This behavior did not change as his brothers at the HFD can attest. His big presence will be missed by all who knew him, but the Travis stories will live on.
He is survived by his Dado and other mother Susan, his other dad Bradley Weber (Shelley), his sister Laura Brock (Stan Jordan), his sister Samantha King (James King Jr.), his brother Keith Collins and his three children Emily Collins, Trey Collins and Brianna McGill. There are also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
