Travis Collins

Travis R. Collins (Tom) was born on April 19, 1925 in Burkburnett, Texas to the late Albert Louis and Jeanette Moore Collins.  He passed away on August 27, 2021 in Hobbs, NM.  He married the late Betty Jane Alred on July 3, 1947 in Cleveland, OK.  They were married for 72 years before her passing in January of 2020.  Tom was a WWII Navy veteran and a 33rd degree Mason.

He is survived by his children – Stephen Louis of Dallas, TX, Patrick Wayne (Susan) of Hobbs, NM and Kathryn Ann Collins of Hobbs, NM.  There are 10 grandchildren - Julie (Cory) Cummings of Andrews, TX; Cole Collins of Oklahoma City, OK; Crystal (Simon) McCauley of Napa, CA; Caitlin (Chris) Gunn of Austin, TX; Travis Collins, Laura Brock and Keith Collins, all of Hobbs, NM; Jamie (Brennan) Bertrand of Fort Worth, TX; Jacob (Jennifer) Rusk of Fort Worth, TX; and Sarah (Kevin) Jones of Sweetwater, TX; 21 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by his son Michael Travis of Oklahoma City, OK, and great grandson Roman Matthew Rusk.  Tom had the following siblings:  A.J. Collins, Maureen Wright, Jesse Clyde Collins, Elizabeth Joy Collins, A.L. Collins, Nettie Joe Collins, and Bobby Dale Collins.

Tom was a hard-working oilfield man, from Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, South Dakota to South America.  He was a pilot and transportation manager for NM Electric prior to his retirement.

His second home was on the Llano River in Texas. He spent many years making improvements to the property, so that the kids and grandkids could enjoy the river experience.

His last few years were spent at the Good Life Senior Living Nursing Home.

A memorial service will not be held.  His and Betty Jane’s ashes will be scattered at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family asks you make a donation to your favorite charity.
