Tommy (Tom) Wade Roane, 77, of Hobbs entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 26, 2016, after a long battle with a rare neurological disorder at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born April 5, 1938, in Albuquerque, NM to Ralph Angus and Bethana Bentley Roane. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Caroline Roane; daughter Maureen Roane and husband Jason Lasiter of Midland, Texas; daughter Elizabeth and husband Barry Simpson of Ft. Worth, Texas; son Tom, Jr. and wife Dina Roane of Houston, Texas; and son Sean Roane of Hobbs. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Brendan Dunaway, Caitlin Dunaway, Keely Lasiter, Emma Lasiter, Jack Simpson, Joshua Simpson, Addison Peck, Riley Roane, Isaac Roane; one great-grandchild Kinsley Rider; and godson Brent Allen.
Tom served our country in the armed forces and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy and the United States Army. He was a lifelong member of the DAV. He received his AA and BA degrees from Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM and his Masters in Administrative Education from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. He moved to Hobbs in 1968 when he began his educational career as a teacher at Hobbs High School and then as an administrator at Heizer Junior High School and Highland Junior High School until his retirement. He served as president of the New Mexico Vocational Association and received numerous acknowledgements and awards. He then went on to work for Copies, Inc. and as the Educational Director at LCCF where he also served as Chaplain. On December 10, 1983, he was ordained a Deacon along with close friend Sam Navarette and served both St. Helena and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parishes until his retirement. As a deacon, he baptized many children and married numerous couples in the community. He was also active with the Boy Scouts of America and served both Pack 345 and Troop 45 in Hobbs. Tom enjoyed many hobbies and leaves his family with treasured wood-working and stained-glass creations. He also enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family, birdwatching and gardening. At night he enjoyed stargazing and tracking constellations. He was also an avid Notre Dame fan and never missed the Army/Navy rivalry football game.
