Thomas Gordon Pierce of Hobbs, NM passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, after a lengthy struggle with diabetes. He was 58 years old.
Tom was born in Spur, Texas, April 9, 1955 to Linnie Jonell and Piermont Pierce. He graduated from Spur High School in 1973. He also attended San Angelo State University where he played football, served as vicepresident of the Mens Dorm Association and was very involved in student athletics. He majored in physical education and minored in government.
Tom moved to Hobbs in 1977, initially to earn money to continue college. He saw opportunity working in the oilfield, beginning with his first job at BJ Hughes. He continued his career in the oilfields of Lea County with a variety of companies. He was a great salesman who could probably sell ice to an Eskimo. He owned and worked at Ogallala LLC until he passed away.
Tom married Leah Ann Holdridge in 1978 and enjoyed always being together. They were blessed with two children, Tyson and Masey. Tom was very involved in all of his childrens activities, especially sports. He coached just about everything you could imagine, for girls and boys. He helped start childrens tball and mens industrial softball in Hobbs. He could always be found on the sidelines at his grandkids sporting events as well. Tom was also a huge supporter of 4H and junior livestock shows. He was always there to bid on animals to help support the kids.
Tom will remain in the hearts of his love of 35 years, Leah Ann his son, Tyson Pierce and wife Brenda, of Hobbs and his daughter, Masey Doss and husband Ryan, of Lubbock. He will be remembered as PawPaw Tom to his grandchildren Conagher, McKayla, and Isabella Pierce of Hobbs, and Kasyn Doss of Lubbock. He is also survived by his brother Tony Pierce and wife Rhonda of Amarillo and sisters Teena Rucker and husband Charlie of Hobbs, and Dinky Fink of Artesia as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at First Baptist Church at 10 AM on Thursday, April 3rd, with Billy Chidester, pastor of First Baptist Hobbs, officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 57 at the Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Donations can be made in honor of Tom to the American Diabetes Association,
4H, or youth sports.
