Thelma Johnson

Thelma Johnson, age 73, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Methodist Hospital, Dallas, Texas. She was born to the late Tom and Vera Sullivan on May 6, 1939. Also preceding her in death is her sister Leona Reynolds. Thelma married Richard Johnson on February 9, 1957. Also surviving are her children, David Johnson and wife Deborah of Dallas and Barbara and Jim Cecil of Hobbs brother, Dub Pierce and wife Betsy grandchildren Kris Johnson, Chisholm Cecil, Colton Cecil, Chloe Cecil, Victoria Frazier and Elizabeth Frazier great grandson, Rhett Johnson numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Thelma was a lifetime resident of Hobbs where she and her family owned and operated Western Motor Co. Thelma attended Hobbs High School. She spent her life loving the Lord and was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she loved to sing. Thelma was a founding board member of Manna Outreach and a United Way volunteer. She served the community for over 23 years at Manna. Her heart was always open to those in need.
Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 30, 2012, at The
Chapel of Hope. The funeral service will be at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church on
Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Pastor David Downs will be officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Manna Outreach, 521 E. Main, Hobbs, NM 88240.
