Ted C. Smith, 79, of Hobbs, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at his residence. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Hope with Rev. Shawn Drake officiating. Cremation will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born March 5, 1927 in Elida, New Mexico and grew up on a farm in Portales. He served his country in the United States Army during WWlI in Japan. He was also a member of the New Mexico National Guard. He served a total of 33 years in the military and was a lifetime member of VFW. He earned a Masters Degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University and was an educator for 32 years. He retired from the Hobbs School System in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Smith of Hobbs; two daughters, Gail Pevey and her husband Bill of Hobbs, Cindy Bullok and her husband Jim of Hobbs; one son, Gary Smith and his wife Sylvia of Hobbs; two grandsons, Rickey and Kristopher Taylor of Hobbs; two granddaughters, Lyndsey and Allisyn Smith of Hobbs, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James William Smith and Gertrude Ophelia Smith and his five brothers.
He loved to fish, play golf, work in his yard and his shop and visit with his friends. He never met a stranger.
