Sylvia Mae (Polk) Langston Thompson passed away in Hobbs, NM., after an extended illness on September 12, 2017.
Cremation and no services at Sylvia's request. Sylvia was born on 30 July 1945, in Lamesa, Dawson Co., TX., while her parents Benjamin Franklin Polk and Beulah B. Logan Bruton Polk lived on and managed the Self Ranch, located about 25 miles west of Lamesa, in Gaines Co., TX. Sylvia moved to the Mexican/Texas border village of Ruidosa, TX., with her parents and younger brother in the fall of 1949. After living there several years, Sylvia started first grade at Valentine School, in Valentine,TX. She lived in various places during her life, including Marfa,Kermit, Odessa, Loop, Georgetown, and Gun Barrel City, all in Texas. Sylvia had two marriages; she had no children. She lived in Monument, NM., from March 1996 until October 2016, when she moved into Hobbs. Sylvia loved the Lord with all of her heart and was an avid cookbook collector and writer. Sylvia was an amazing and very special Aunty to all of her nieces and nephews. We were all so blessed to have her in our lives and we thank God for for all the wonderful memories we have with her.
Sylvia was preceded by her brothers James William Polk, Marion Preston Polk, Sam H. Bruton, and Nelson "Mickey" Bruton, and her sister Frankie (Polk) Bullion.
Survivors include her brother, Bill Polk, of Kansas City, MO., and many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews, including two special ladies who were very helpful to Sylvia in her last days, Debra Sue (Bruton) Daley and Toye (Hamilton) Fuller.
