Stuart Spillar

Stuart W. Spillar, 80, of Hobbs, NM passed from this earth on February 4, 2019 in Lubbock, TX.

Stuart was born in Houston, TX to H.T. Spillar and Margaret Spillar. His mother was an elementary teacher in Hobbs and his father worked for Exxon Mobil.

Stuart taught government at Hobbs High School for 38 years. One of his most rewarding achievements in teaching AP government was the many students that scored a 5 on the AP test. Many of these students remarked on his outstanding teaching.

He had several hobbies, raising roses, fruit trees and a variety of other plants. Opera was his passion and he spent many Saturday afternoons listening to PBS. Other passions were reading and keeping abreast of current politics. He headed up the Lea County Republican Party for many years and was able to attend several National Conventions.

He had a love of old cars. His parents and he spent many winters in the mountains snowmobiling.

Stuart was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Barbara Balliew Spillar of El Paso, TX.

He will be missed by many friends in Hobbs.
