Steven Kelly Sledge, 55, of Hobbs passed away February 10, 2015. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00AM Monday, February 16, 2015 at Chapel of Hope with Brother Bobby Weldy officiating. The family will be receiving friends Sunday, 2-4PM at Chapel of Hope.
Steve was born in Hobbs on November 16, 1959 to Merlin and Cauline Sledge. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1978 and married Connie Lathram on August 2, 1986. Steve joined the Hobbs Fire Department in 1988 and enjoyed serving others through his work there. Steve and Connie had two beautiful daughters, Kelli and Alicia, who were Steve's pride and joy.
Music always played a major role in Steve's life, and he could sing Willie Nelson like no one else. An avid guitar player and singer, Steve enjoyed spending his spare time playing music with his friends in the group Drinkerplay.
His parents Merlin and Cauline Sledge precede Steve in death. He is survived by daughters Kelli and Alicia Sledge, both of Hobbs, sister Shanna Hardesty and her life partner Bobby Weldy, of Queens, New Mexico, and nephew Michael Blakely of Washington.
The family would like to extend an invitation to all who knew Steve to join them in celebrating Steve's life and honoring his memory.
