Steven Dean Prather, 59, was born August 29, 1957 in Denver City, TX to Paul "Dink" and Bessie Prather. He passed away on May 13, 2017 in Houston, TX.
He married Susan Hughes on April 20, 2002 in Hobbs, NM.
Steven is survived by his wife, Susan Prather of Hobbs, NM; children, Adrianne Williams and husband Todd of Lubbock, TX, Rowdy Prather of Clovis, NM, Russell Pickerel of Eunice, NM, Kevin Pickerel of Midland, TX, Jarod Pickerel, of Hobbs, NM; his mother, Bessie Prather of Hobbs, NM; two sisters, Stephanie Prather of Alamogordo, NM and Sherry Prather of Eunice, NM; grandchildren, Allison Williams, Alexandria Prather and Reese Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and very special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul "Dink" Prather.
Steven had numerous achievements and was a member of various associations including; working alongside his father Dink at Chaparral Service, Inc. in Eunice, NM until it was sold in 2006, was a Master Mason of the Eunice Masonic Lodge since March of 1982, served on the Lea County Fair Board from October 17, 1988 to May 19, 1993, was a member of the State Board for the New Mexico Horseman's Association in 2005 and 2006, served on the Zia Park Horseman's Committee in 2005 and then again from 2011 through 2016, served on the New Mexico Horse Breeders' Association Board of Trustees in 2015 and 2016. Steve owned and operated Doubletree Farm and also recently received the Jim Curry Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Mexico Horseman's Association for the year of 2016.
