Simon Velasquez, Sr.

Rev. Simon Velasquez, Sr. died Friday, November 25, 2011, at Hobbs Health Care Center in Hobbs. A funeral service will be held 2:00 Monday, November 28, 2011, at Chapel of Hope officiated by Pastors Crug Cardillo, Joe D. Hernandez and Steve Rodriquez. . Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, 2011, 3:00 4:00 p.m. and Monday 8:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Velasquez was born February 18, 1924, in Laredo, TX, to Crispin and Otilia Velasquez. He married Ernestina Martinez in 1989 at Lubbock, TX. He has been a minister in Hobbs for 47 years at Samaria Pentecostal Church. He held many Bible studies and prayer groups at his home. He was always doing something around the house and he loved to eat.

Simon is survived by his wife, Ernestina of Hobbs two sons, Sylvester Velasquez, Sr., and wife Lupe, and Manuel Velasquez, and wife Jeany, both of Hobbs three daughters, Guadalupe Casas, Juana Ramirez and Marie Rodriquez and Alex, all of Hobbs 14 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreatgrandchild and his faithful pet, Spot.

He was preceded in death by his son, Simon Velasquez, Jr. his grandson, Sylvester Velasquez, Jr. his brothers and sisters and his first wife, Paula.
