Mrs. Hignight was born on March 4, 1938, to Lewis Merriweather Skidmore and Lena Bessie Kern Skidmore, in Sulphur Bluff, Texas . She married her loving husband, Jerry W. Hignight on October 20, 1990, and together they shared 21 wonderful years of marriage.
Mrs. Hignight was a beautician, and owned the Glamour House Beauty Salon in Hobbs for a number of years prior to her retirement.
Shirley loved her Lord and her family. She was a good and faithful servant of the Lord, and was a member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Hobbs for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as often as she could. She loved to travel with Jerry, and see Gods beautiful creations in nature, on their many rv adventures. She also loved to spend time in Ruidoso at their mountain home watching the wildlife, gathering the apples to freeze for her delicious pies, watching the turning of the leaves in the fall, and enjoying the winter beauty of the snow capped mountains.
Shirley was a wonderful cook, and won a number of ribbons in past years at the Lea County Fair, particularly for her pies, and baked goods. She loved to cook for her family and friends, and if someone came to Shirleys house, or a church potluck dinner, she always made sure that they never left hungry.

Johnson and husband Keith of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Darla J. Adams and husband Stanley of Hobbs. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers: Louie Othell, Lewis Eldon, Billy Wayne and Charles Jewel Skidmore and 1 sister, Mary Estell Skidmore Long.
Shirley wanted her funeral services to be a celebration of her life not a somber, dark or sad event. The family respectfully requests that everyone in attendance please join us in wearing bright, pretty colors for her services. Shirleys favorite color was purple.
