alignjustifyServices for Shirley Francis Abernathy, 71 of Hobbs will be at 10:00 am Thursday, September 10. 2009 at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend LaVoid Ford officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery under the direction of Chapel of Hope funeral home.

alignjustifyOur beloved mother and grandmother was reunited with her loved ones in heaven on Sepember. 5, 2009. Born on April 18, 1938, in Water Valley, Mississippi, to Mary and Bill Low, she graduated from Hobbs High in 1956 where she was a varsity cheerleader.

alignjustifyShe married Bob Abernathy on October 26, 1956. A lifelong resident of Hobbs, she and Bob owned and operated Hobbs Welding Supply for 38 years before retiring in 2003. She was a charter member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a senior believer at Temple Baptist Church.

alignjustifyShe was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Bill Low; and her husband Bob Abernathy. Survivors include her daughter, Debra Vanlandingham and husband Richard, son Brett Abernathy and wife Michelle, all of Hobbs; brother, Jimmy Low and wife Linda of Temple, Texas; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Amanda and Chad Vanlandingham and Paige, Cole and Maggie Abernathy; and one great-grandson, Ethan Vanlandingham; and her dear friend Mark Seay. Numerous extended family will cherish her memory and well as many friends and associates.
