Shelby Lee Pennington, a retired lease operator and resident of Hobbs, NM, died in Lubbock, TX on August 3, 2022, after a 3-month battle with pneumonia and other respiratory complications.
Shelby is survived by his mother Bernice Pennington of Kermit TX; sister Alice Fosdick of Kermit, TX; his wife, Delores Pennington of Hobbs, NM; children, Amy Padron of Hobbs, NM and Shelby Pennington of Midland, TX; grandchildren, Julia Ramirez; Jerek Garcia; Nate Pennington and Alyssa Pennington and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father David Pennington.
Shelby Lee Pennington, born May 14, 1951, in Borger, Texas to David and Bernice Pennington. The family moved to Kermit, Texas where Shelby graduated from Kermit High school in 1970. After high school, Shelby was in the Army and a veteran of the Vietnam war, serving 1971-1973. He married Delores Wilson in March of 1973, later welcoming daughter Amy Padron in April 1976 and son Shelby Glynn Pennington in May 1979. Shelby worked for Sun Oil Company for 19 years and then went to work for Devon Energy, where he retired after 19 years.
He enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, playing poker with friends and spending time with family, he also loved Hobbs Eagle basketball. After retirement he spent time meeting friends for coffee or tea and riding around in his golf cart with his beloved poodle Gypsy.
