Selso Garcia, Jr. was born to Selso Sr.and Leonara Nellie Garcia on March 31, 1949 in Clovis, New Mexico. He passed from this life on October 21, 2013 at Lea Regional Hospital at the age sixtyfour years.
A Rosary service will be held on Thursday at 6:00 pm at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Selso will be in state on Thursday from 10am8pm at Chapel of Hope. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 am at the Christian Center with Pastor Jottty Kinney officiating. A graveside service will be on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 10:30 am at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Marine Corps Honor Guard will officiate.
Selso served our country in the Vietnam War from June 1968 to April 1970. He was a Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and three Battle Stars. On May 27, 1995, Selso married Shirley Garcia in Las Vegas, NV.
He was retired from American Oil and Gas Corporation of Loop, Texas.
He organized the Lea County Marine Corps League Detatchment 1185, where he served as Commandant. Selso was also a member of the Military Honor Guard, a lifetime member of the VFW where he served as Chaplain.
Selso took great joy in his service as a DJ. Music was his passion. He loved his family and took great pride in being a husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Selso is survived by his wife, Shirley Garcia of Hobbs, three sons, Scott Casillas of Hobbs, Marc Garcia of Albuquerque, NM, and Toby Garcia and wife, Melinda of Las Vegas, NM three daughters, Tammy Ochoa and husband Adolfo of Pasadena, TX, Rebecca Clark and husband, Greg of Munday, TX and Crystal Briseno of Hobbs eight brothers David Garcia and wife, Cipriana of Plainview, TX, Gene Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Rudy Garcia and wife Patricia of Amarillo, TX, John Garcia and wife Elaine of Harker Heights, TX, Joe Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Raymond Garcia of Hale Center, TX, Alvin Garcia and wife, Irma of Amarillo, TX, Andy Grcia and wife, Sharon of Barto, PA five sisters Christine Martinez of Burleson, TX, Vicki Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Patsy Gomez of Canyon, TX, Nora Olvera of Plainview, TX, Mary Ramon and husband, Rueben of Hale Center, TX and twentytwo grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Selso Sr., and Nellie Garcia, and a son Tony Garcia.
