alignjustifyFuneral services for Sam Bruton of Monument, New Mexico, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2009; at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Kinman officiating. Burial will follow at Bruton Family Cemetery in Monument.

alignjustifyVisitation is 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of Hope with the family in attendance from 4-6 p.m. and 8 a.m. until service time Friday.

alignjustifyArrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

alignjustifyMr. Bruton, 77, died August 17, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born September 15, 1931, in Jacksboro, Texas. He married Faye Bruton October 23, 1950, in Lovington, New Mexico.

alignjustifySam served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lamesa, Texas. Sam had worked in the oilfield, but his true love was ranching. He was the ranch foreman for Snyder Ranches for 32 years. Sam was a member of the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. He was named the Working Cowboy of the Year in 2003. He was known as a storyteller to his friends. Sam's greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren.

alignjustifyHe was a member of Monument Baptist Church.

alignjustifySurvivors include a son, Bobby Sam Bruton and wife Karrie of Monument; a daughter, Penny Bruton of Monument; three grandchildren, Angela Wilson and husband Travis of Clayton, N.M., Sammy Bruton of Monument, and Samantha. Bruton of Monument; one greatgrandson, Cutter Buck Shot Wilson of Clayton, N.M.; a brother, Bill Polk of Kansas City, Missouri; and a sister, Sylvia Thompson of Monument.

alignjustifySam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam H. and Beulah Bruton; his wife, Faye Bruton, on September 17, 2008; a brother, Micky Bruton; and a stepsister, Frankie Bullion.
