Services for Ruth Trice will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Chapel of Hope at 3321 N. Dal Paso in Hobbs. Public visitation is scheduled for Sunday, May 30, from 2 5 p.m. and on Monday, May 31 from 1 5 p.m.
Ruth Marie Alldredge Trice was born July 28, 1925, in Mullin, Texas, to Lewis Harvey and Mary Alldredge, and was one of three children. Her brother, Bob Alldredge lives in Floydada, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, L. H. and Mary Alldredge, her sister, Mildred Strickland of Lubbock and her husband Ralph J. Trice.
She graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Zoology and a minor in journalism. She taught high school biology classes in Plainview, Texas, and married Ralph J. Trice March 22, 1946, in Lubbock, Texas. They were married for 57 years at the time of his passing in 2003. He was a WWII Veteran and Hobbs Schools teacher and coach of 35 years. They moved to Hobbs in 1954. Her three children are Bill Trice, married to Jill Trice, John Trice, married to Lynn Trice and Judy Hanna, married to Larry Hanna. Her grandchildren are Hank Trice, Jourdan Trice, Scott Mulkey, Debbie Perrin and Cindy Bentle. Great grandchildren are Jasmine Bentle, Joshua Bentle, Carter Ross Mulkey, Mason Dayne Mulkey, David Perrin, Alec Martinez, Valorie Trice, Alexia Trice and Isabella Trice.
Ruth taught at Sunday School class for 20 years at First United Methodist Church in Hobbs. She was a published poet with honors and awards from the New Mexico Poetry Society and the Texas Poetry Society. She square danced, was a square dance caller, produced a family newsletter, taught writing memories, served as the family resource with wisdom and knowledge, edited the church bulletin at Asbury Methodist Church, served as tour chairman for antique auto tours as well as Secretary for Roadrunner Antique Car Club, wrote Poets Corner for Lea County Tribune, sang in church choirs for more than 50 years including the most recent, Jubilee Choir, which was one of her favorite things to do. She was a Cub Scout leader for years, an avid computer user, had her own active Facebook page at the age of 84, and was involved with Southern New Mexico Genealogical Society. She enjoyed golfing, playing the piano and harmonica, and was involved in Eastern Star years ago. She was always a humanitarian for friends and family. Her wit, warm smile and embrace is a legacy that will live on for all who knew her.
