Russell Boerner

Memorial services for Russell Boerner, 89, of Hobbs, will be Friday, December 30, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at Chapel of Hope officiated by nephew, Sonny Gottschalk and Mr. D.A. Cochran. Russell died December 28, 2011, at Lea Regional Hospital. He was born May 27, 1922, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, to Ralph and Norma Boerner. He married Jerry Loudamy April 3, 1969, in Ozona, TX. He was a member of Taylor Street Church of Christ.

In his early years, Russell lived in Hollywood, CA, where he and his dad worked at the home of Bob Hope doing handyman and construction work. He hung out with some of the Little Rascals while he was there. He also met Amelia Earhart when she was flying across the country. Russell loved horses and raised Arabian and Appaloosa horses for a time. He loved the outdoors and gardening a relative actually developed the Boerner rose. He was in the Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Australia and New Zealand. The grandchildren brought much joy to Russell on a daily basis. Russell owned and operated Boerners Appliance for 61 years.

Survivors include Jerry, his wife of 42 years 3 sons, Jeffrey Blake, and wife Leslie, Scott Boerner, and wife Sandra, and Augie Boerner, and wife Sandra a daughter, Kelley Atkinson, and husband Will four granddaughters, Brittni Henderson, Katlynn Atkinson, McKenzie Atkinson and Emma Boerner and a grandson, Evan Boerner.
