Royce ‘Buck’ Edward Hicks, Sr, 79, of Hobbs, NM gained his wings on June 25, 2022, after an extended hospital stay following surgery. Buck was born on July 17,1942 in Direct, TX.
Buck moved to Hobbs with his family when he was a young boy and attended Houston Jr. High and Hobbs High School. In the 1960s, his love of cars took him to Tidwell Motors, Dodge Chrysler Plymouth dealership where he worked as a salesman. He raced Tidwell sponsored cars at Hobbs Air Base City drag strip as a hobby during his years at Tidwell. Around 1969, he went to work for Warren Petroleum/Gulf Oil in Monument, later acquired by Chevron, where he retired in 1996. During retirement, he, and wife Darlene, worked together for many years as retail demonstrators at local stores. Together, they also enjoyed volunteering for several years at Good Samaritan retirement home where Buck was also the voice behind the microphone for resident bingo games.
Buck never met a stranger. He thoroughly enjoyed meeting and visiting with people and was quite the storyteller. He also loved playing board, card, and domino games, especially with his competitive family members!
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Lee and Mamie Josephine Hicks, his brothers J.W. Hicks, Michael Hicks, Wayne Hicks, sister Berniece Hicks and nephew, Roy Hicks. He is survived by his wife Darlene Hicks; brother Charles Hicks; sister Juanell Hicks of Hobbs; son Bobby Hicks and wife Angela of Frisco, TX; son Royce Hicks, Jr. and fiancée Laura Beth Whiteford of Trophy Club, TX; son Chris Jackson and wife Kelly of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren Tanner Jackson, Hayleigh Hicks, Maddy Andrews, Kinsley Hicks, Abby Jackson, and Easton Hicks. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Special Thanks to Micheal Hicks-Piedra & husband Stephen Hicks-Piedra, Aysia Hicks & Trista Glover for helping Darlene in her time of need.
