Roy Wayne Hicks, 53, of Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away on September 23, 2013. He was born on May 8, 1960 to Mary Jeanette Hicks and J.W. Hicks. He is survived by his Wife of 13 years, Felicia Hicks and sister, Karen Kay Taylor Hicks of Amarillo, Texas, 4 uncles, 3 aunts, 5 nephews, 4 nieces, motherinlaw, three brothersinlaw, three sistersinlaw, and numerous cousins, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jeanette Hicks and father, J.D. Hicks.
Roy was employed by the City of Hobbs Water Department for 26 years until his retirement from the Water Utilities Division. He also worked for Third Day Garden Center and most recently, Bird Electric as a shop hand.
He was known for his love and loyalty to family and friends, honesty, helpfulness and a strong work ethic. His infectious smile, bear hugs, and a sense of humor brightened the days of all who knew him.
Roy enjoyed spending time with his wife, barbequing with family, laughing with friends, taking care of his hobby farm animals, and was a diehard Dallas Cowboy football fan. He loved working with kids of all ages. The first Roy Hicks Top Hand Award belt buckle was presented to a 4H member during the 2013 Lea County Fair and Rodeo in Lovington, New Mexico this year for his dedication in helping the kids in the horse show.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 27, at 9 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the family in attendance from 57 p.m. Thursday, September 26. Services are under the Direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
