Ronald Stephen Martin, age 75, a resident of Hobbs, NM passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. He was born on September 2, 1941 in Crocker, Missouri. He grew up in Hobbs, graduating from Hobbs High School in 1959. Ronnie went to work for the U.S. Post Office in 1961 and retired in 1998. He married the love of his life and his biggest fan, Dorothy McBroom on September 2, 1961 and they remained inseparable for the next 47 years until her passing. Ronnie was a loving and devoted dad to his daughter, Kim. He adored his three grandchildren, Dylan, Cassi and Luke. His face would light up anytime they were around and he loved being their "Dude".
There has never been a bigger baseball fan than Ronnie. He had a passion for the game that most people could never understand. He was the founder of the West Texas-New Mexico Men's Baseball League and played baseball well into his 50's. He hit his last homerun at the age of 51. He also loved instilling his passion for the game to hundreds of young boys over the years on several different teams, but especially on the Lion's Club. He believed that baseball wasn't just a game, it also taught discipline and many life lessons.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy McBroom Martin; his son, Ronald Stephen Martin, Jr.; his parents, Dallas and Gladys Martin; siblings, John Martin, Donna Martin Houser and Jerry Martin and his Father in Law, W.T. "Mac" McBroom.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim and husband, Freddie Gonzales, Jr.; grandson, Dylan Wisneski and fiancée, Karissa; granddaughter and "Princess", Cassandra Wisneski; grandson, Lucas Wisneski; Mother in Law, Marjorie McBroom; sister, Bettye Whitehead; brother, Dennis Martin and wife, Susan; brother in law, Don McBroom and wife, Carlann and numerous nieces and nephews.
