Funeral mass for Rolland Worth Perry, 78, of Hobbs will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at St. Helena Catholic Church with Father Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. 5 p.m. Monday and 8 9 a.m. Tuesday at Chapel of Hope.
Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. Perry died February 10, 2012, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1933, in Gary, Indiana. He married Virginia Adams Perry on April 8, 1952, in Pittsburg, KS.
Rolland had a strong impact on the creation of the modern oil and gas industry. He holds many patents for laboratory testing and chemical analysis, and he wrote the standard manual used by many oil companies for gas chromatography. The words that describe Rolland are: Utmost honesty, strength and compassion. Rolland enjoyed the outdoors camping, fishing, hunting and the mountains. He was a member of the Hobbs Gun Club and enjoyed reloading shells. He grew vegetables and shared with his neighbors. His passion in life was his love for his family and friends.
He was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Perry of Hobbs, NM two sons, Ed Perry and wife, Shirley of Austin, TX, and Steve Perry and finacee, Giovanna Quesada of Lewisville, TX sister, Marilyn Carney and husband, William K. of Austin TX grandchildren, Chris and Michael Perry and Leslie and John Paul Perry.
Rolland was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Susan Grace Perry.
