Robert Whitten

Robert Lee Whitten was born March 7, 1929 in Warren, Oklahoma to Earl and Pauline Whitten. Mr. Whitten passed away February 13, 2014 in Hobbs, New Mexico. He graduated from East Central Oklahoma University with a degree in Biology and earned his Masters Degree from Eastern New Mexico University, Portales, New Mexico.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and went on to serve in the Army National Guard until his retirement as a Major with 23 years of service.
Bob and Lou Whitten were married on August 20, 1955 in Tucumcari, New Mexico.
He taught junior and senior high school in Tucumcari and Hobbs, New Mexico. In 1962 he joined State Farm Insurance Company as an agent in Hobbs and remained so until retirement in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ann King, as well as a daughter, Laura. He is survived by his wife Lou, a son David and his wife Marla, a granddaughter Jessica Cross and her husband David, along with two great grandchildren, Rylee and John David.
Cremation will follow at a later date. As Bob requested, there will be no service. However, anyone who would like to visit the family is encouraged to stop by David and Marlas home at 120 W. Silver Dr. between 4pm and 7pm on Monday, February 17, 2014.
