Robert Wesley Whitaker, age 82, born April 3, 1929, in Lancaster, SC, was granted his angel wings after a lengthy illness at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX, on July 11, 2011. He was a longtime resident of Hobbs, NM.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. He never met a stranger and always gained a friend. He was loved and respected by many.
Robert loved the outdoors, from hunting to fishing, to working on his tractor. As he grew old gracefully, he could always be found riding his lawn mower tending to his yard. He was a very wise man and was always willing to give advice. He never turned down someone in need and was always first to offer a helping hand. He will be missed dearly and loved always.
Mr. Whitaker is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Laverne Whitaker son, Ronald Whitaker and wife Sharon daughter, Linda Finefield and husband Dave daughter, Lisa Enriquez and husband Richard grandson, Michael Whitaker and wife Kerie grandson, Jeffrey Popp and wife Staci granddaughter, Alicia Yaeger granddaughter, Amy Bacino grandson, Wesley Whitaker and wife Kristin grandson, Richie Enriquez granddaughter, Reina Enriquez grandson, Robert Enriquez and six greatgrandchildren, Danielle, Randi, Thomas, Seth, Brayden and Jocelyn.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 18, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Chapel of Hope. A celebration of his life will be Tuesday, July 19, 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of Hope in Hobbs, NM.
