Robert Sands

September 21, 1922 — April 9, 2011

Robert William Sands Bob, 88, of Hobbs, NM, passed into Gods hands on April 9, 2011, after a struggle with congestive heart failure. Bob was born to Robert and Nellie Sands in Spencer, IA, on September 21, 1922. He grew up in Russell, KS, where he met his wife, Ruth Laubhan. Bob and Ruth were married in 1941 and they had two sons, Roger and Ronald.

Bob joined the service in 1942 where he worked his way up to a Major. He flew a single engine Cessna plane where he was the artillery forward observer. Bob earned an Oak Leaf Cluster air medal for his achievements in WWII. After the military, he worked for Gulf Oil for 27 years as a field superintendent. Bob then moved on to owning two businesses, Testers and Sands Appraisal. He retired in 1990. Bob and Ruth enjoyed spending their retired years going to Zapata, TX, to enjoy some camping and fishing with their friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Bern and sister, Margret.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth his sons, Roger and Ronald five grandchildren, Crystal, Carollee, Robert, Kelly and Connie and several greatgrandchildren.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E Snyder, Hobbs, NM, Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.
