Ritha Sue Hicks was born on July 3, 1942 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 3, 2013.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James L. Hicks two brothers, Benny Reeves and wife Peggy, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Charles Martin and wife Cindy, of Saginaw, Texas two sons, Buddy Hicks and wife Sharen, and Joey Hicks one daughter, Tammy Hamilton and husband James, all of Hobbs. Sue is survived by an aunt, Lorraine Hall, of Sand Springs. She is also survived by twentyfour grandchildren, twentysix greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Toy and Irene Martin a daughter Cleta Sue Salmons a greatgrandson Elijah James Hicks Tadpole and a nephew, Christopher Martin.
Sue started her journey with the love of her life on June 24, 1967 in Juarez, Mexico. In 1973 they moved their family from Texas to Hobbs to take over the family business, The Broadway Newsstand, and operated it together for 18 years. Sue was an avid bowler, loved to cook, crochet, sew, and do arts and crafts. Her greatest joy in life was watching her children and grandchildren participate in all their activities. Sue not only loved her family, but extended her love to others who affectionately called her Mamma Sue. No matter what she faced in life she always handled every situation with grace, a smile on her face, and God in her heart.
Visitation will be from 8:00am until time of service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, with Pastor John Ayers officiating. Graveside services to follow immediately at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
