Rita M. Cochran, 61, died Oct. 14, 2006 in Hobbs, N.M. She was born Dec. 5, 1944 in Oklahoma. She married Larry Payne Cochran on Aug. 31, 1963 in Henrietta, Okla.
She was active with Boy Scouts for 34 years serving as a Den Leader, Cub Scout Dayshy;camp Director, District Trainshy;ing Committee Member, Disshy;trict Popcorn Chairman, Roundtable Commissioner and District Awards Banquet Chairshy;man. On the district level, she was awarded the District Award of Merit for her servshy;ice. On the council level, she was honored with the Silver Beaver Award.
Rita was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts, starting as a Troop Leader and continuing her service as the local cookie coordinator. In addition she served on the Zia Girl Scout Council Board of Directors for eight years.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husshy;band, Larry of Hobbs; a son, Wesley Paul and wife Diana Cochran of Hobbs; a daughter, Sara and husband Paul Davis of Sandhausen, Germany; a brothshy;er, Harold Eugene Sheppard of Henrietta, Okla.; three grandshy;sons, Joshua, Simon and Philip Davis of Sandhausen, Germany; a granddaughter, Melanie Cochran of Hobbs; and a great-grandson, Dylan Cochran of Hobbs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Vera Sheppard; and sister, Cherry Barnes.
