Richard Ray

November 18, 1950 — March 19, 2018

Richard "Rick" Lee Ray, 67, was born November 18, 1950 in El Paso, TX to Charles and Helen Ray. He passed away on March 19, 2018 in Hobbs.

Rick grew up in El Paso and attended Parkland High School. He married Diane Ray on September 15, 1970 in El Paso, TX. After high school he entered the US Army in 1970. He served in Panu Jong, S. Korea. He attended El Paso School of Electronics and did service repair for Montgomery Ward, he moved to Carlsbad then to Hobbs where he served as store manager. In 1979 he started as a firefighter in Hobbs and was promoted to Lieutenant and then retired as Captain in 1999.

He enjoyed going to the sandhills and camping with his family. Rick loved to tinker and make things better. He was a great friend to people, always willing to help others. He was very proud of his sons and loved his family.

He leaves behind his wife, Diane; two sons, Mark Ray and his wife Elena and Todd Ray all of Hobbs; three grandchildren, Brice Ray, Tayler Ray and Matthew Ray all of Hobbs; one brother, Larry Wilkins of El Paso, TX and two sisters, Debbie Palmer of Cedar Park, TX and Sherry Smith of Plano, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rick is preceded in death by his, step-dad, Glenn, mother, Helen and brother Douglas Wilkins and sister, Beverly Nolen.
