Reda Wood

Graveside services for Reda Lucille Waggoner Wood, 85, of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Portales Cemetery, with Ray Smith officiating.

Reda was born the first of two children on July 13, 1928 in Archer City, Texas, to John and Wilma Waggoner. She went home to her Heavenly Father on May 1, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones. Reda attended Burkburnett High School, graduating in 1946. She married her husband of 62 years, C.J. Scrappy Wood in Dimmit, Texas on September 27, 1947. The couple had five children, four girls and one boy. The family resided in California, Kansas, and Texas before coming to New Mexico, traveling to wherever the work was for C.J, who worked in construction. They settled in Portales in 1965, where C.J. continued working construction and Reda raised their children, while also having a hand in raising many of their grandchildren. When she wasnt reading, Reda was an accomplished seamstress and made countless quilts for her children and grandchildren. She loved being outside, and for many years she grew fruits and vegetables in her massive garden, as well as tending to her flowers and trees in her yard. At the time of her passing, Reda resided in Hobbs, New Mexico, and was a faithful member of the Crossroads Sunday School Class and Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.
Reda is survived by her children, four daughters and two sonsinlaw Teresa WoodSanders and Ron Sanders of Portales, New Mexico, Jeri Bartlett of Tool, Texas, Vicky Wood of Claremore, Oklahoma, Jo and Tim Allison of Portales, New Mexico and one son and daughterinlaw, Clifford William Bill and Raylene Wood of Hobbs, New Mexico. She had eleven grandchildren Tammy Wood, David and Patty Bartlett, Jodi Collins, Robert Wood, Ricci Walton, Rebecca Bodfish, Sara Cox, Reda Allison, and Joshua and Matthew Wood and seven greatgrandchildren, Janay Summers, Taryn Wood, Bradan and Jesse Ludlow, Tori and Morgan Collins, and Reagan Cox.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, H.P. Waggoner.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Baptist Childrens Home of Portales or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.
