Ray Haynes, age 93, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Desert Gardens in Hobbs, N.M. Ray was born in Missouri on September 12, 1913 to Ira and Beulah Haynes. The family moved to Fort Baird, N.M. in 1922. Ray graduated from high school and college in Silver City, N.M. In 1937, he began his lengthy career as an educator in Hobbs. Teaching and coaching were his passion. Ray's kind heart and generosity endeared him to all who knew him. The last 19 years of his career were served as the Principal of Heizer Junior High where in 2000 the Gymnasium was named in honor of Ray Haynes for his many years of service and dedication.

Ray proudly served his country in the United States Navy in World War II, after which he resumed his teaching career in Hobbs.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Lillian, sister Geraldine Ca1tison, a nephew Tom Callison and a niece Peggy Overland.
