Polly W. Long, 91, of Hobbs died on November 8, 2011, at Lea Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2100, at Chapel of Hope in Hobbs with Pastor David Matkins presiding. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A visitation time with family will be on Thursday, November 10, from 11 a.m. 6 p.m.
Long was born on May 2, 1920, in Devine, TX. She married R. J. Rube Long in 1941 in Lovington, NM.
Polly grew up on a ranch eleven miles south of Hobbs. She rode the first bus that Earl Kornegay drove. Polly was a lifetime resident of Hobbs.
Many years ago, Polly was in the insurance business. She was employed by the City of Hobbs for eighteen years. Polly served with the city as a secretary for the city manager and as treasurer. Her second career was in real estate.
Polly loved red roses and had a rose garden. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was also a member of Taylor Street Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son, J. Wayne Long of Hobbs by two granddaughters, Jessica Dawes and husband Tim of Rio Rancho, NM, and Andrea Day and husband Doug of Burnett, TX by a stepdaughter, Bobbie Machado of Elk City, OK and by three greatgrandsons, T.J. Dawes, Derrick Dawes and Cory Dawes of Rio Rancho.
She was preceded in death by her husband R. J. Rube Long on August 10, 1986, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Ben Raley by two sisters, Faye Raley and Margaret Lawson, and by a greatgranddaughter, Danielle Renae Dawes who was born and died on October 8, 2002.
