Mrs. Hurley, 77, died Jan. 14, 2007, at her home in Hobbs. She was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Lamesa, Texas. She married John B. Hurley on April 24, 1949, at First Baptist Church in Lamesa, Texas.
Mrs. Hurley taught in Portales, N.M., for four years after moving from Wellington, Texas. She was a teacher at Broadmoor Elementary School for 27 years where she taught third grade. She retired in 1988. Onita was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was a memshy;ber of the Encounter Sunday School Class. She enjoyed garshy;dening, roses, cooking and reading, but she mainly loved caring for her husband and family. Loving Jesus was her life and purpose behind everyshy;thing she did.
Survivors include her husshy;band, John B. Hurley of the home; a son, John G. Hurley and wife Ginny of Pflugerville, Texas; a son-inshy;-law, Cullen Wells of Derby, Kan.; two sisters, Glenodine Holman of Lamesa, Texas, and Gloria Hoover of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Cullen Wells Jr. and wife Leah of Chicago, Ill., Julie Busler and husband Ryan of Shawnee, Okla., Tobin John Hurley of Tulsa, Okla., Ginger Wells of Norman, Okla., and Hardy Hurley of Pflugerville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Onita was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Lucille Esmond; a sister, La Vrae Hillman, and a daughshy;ter, Kathy Lynn Hurley Wells.
