Olin Earnest Stewart , 87, entered this world December 8, 1926 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Earnest and Eliza Belle Stewart. He departed this world and entered his eternal rest November 12, 2014 in Hobbs, NM. After attending school in Guthrie, Oklahoma and working the family farm, he joined the Army as a young man. While in the Army, Olin served honorably in the Philippines and Korea as a paratrooper. He also served in the Occupation Forces in the 127th Airborne Engineer Battalion in Japan. During his service, Olin was awarded the World War II Victory Medal for service, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Glider Badge, and the Parachutists Badge.
After his military service, Olin moved to Hobbs, NM and went to work in the oilfields. When he finally retired at the age 75, having worked in the oil industry for 50 years, he was the most respected Mud Engineer in the state.
Olie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Marie Stewart, 1 sister, Bettie Belle Mabee of Illinois, 3 children: Sherrin Lynn Stewart of Florida, Olin Wayne Stewart and wife Mary of Florida, and Ginger Rohloff and husband Gary of Hobbs. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Jamie Dillman, Christopher Cowen, Clint Cowan, Michael Stewart, Katie Stewart, and Misty Dosher, along with numerous greatgrandchildren. Olin was preceded in death by both his Mother and Father, sister Lorene and brother Outher.
Olin was a Baptist man of faith and loved the years he spent with the childrens church organization at the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed golf, playing dominos and cards, telling oilfield stories, and working in his yard.
Visitation will be held Monday from 10 am till 6 pm at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at Chapel of Hope Tuesday, November 18 at 2 pm, and Olin will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens following the service. Condolences may be sent to www.chapelofhopefunerals.com
