Memorial service for Odell Vance, 90, of Hobbs, were held Monday, July 22, 2013, at Church of Hobbs with Pastor John Ayers officiating. Burial will be at Ft. Sam National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. He was born July 31, 1922, in Alma, TX to William and Hattie Vance. He passed from this life July 20, 2013, in Hobbs.
Odell married Bonnie L. Johnson, September 6, 1949 in Clovis, NM. He was a member of Church at Hobbs. He was a Christian, a decorated WWII Veteran, and a kind, warm and caring man. He truly epitomized the Greatest Generation. Above all, he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Hobbs two sons, Jerry Vance and his wife, Deanne of Liberty Hill, TX, and Terry Vance and his wife, Annette of Lockhart, TX a sister, Doris Ulmer and husband, Yuel of Hobbs three grandsons, Jeff Vance, Jody Vance and wife Mary, and Anthony Vance five granddaughters, Emily Cook and husband, Chris, Katelyn Alfier and husband Zach, Carly, Cody and Amanda Vance and three greatgrandchildren.
Odell is preceded in death by granddaughter Jessica parents, W. J. Vance and Hattie, five brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers family has asked donations be made to: Odell Vance Memorial food fund at Church at Hobbs, P.O. Box 514, Hobbs, New Mexico 88240.
Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
