Morris Barnard

Funeral services for M. L. Barney Barnard will be 2 p.m.Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Dean Mathis officiating. Interment will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Tuesday 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Barney died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born June 18, 1916, near Brandon, Hill County, Texas. He graduated from Brandon and Mertens High School and attended Hillsboro Junior College. He married Mozelle Neal in March, 1935. Mozelle passed away in February of 1971.

They moved to Hobbs in 1946 and worked as purchasing agent for New Mexico Electric Service Company. Then he worked for Walton Trucking and Pipeline Co. as office manager from 1947 to 1950. He was the city clerk of Hobbs from 1950 to 1952. He retired as general manager of Hobbs News Sun where he worked from 1953 to 1987. He then worked for Summers Oil Co. Barney was an avid baseball fan.

alignjustifyBarney was a B-17 pilot in World War II, flying 16 missions from England over Germany.

alignjustifyHe married Glynnette Massey in September, 1971.

alignjustifyBarney was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

His survivors include his wife, Glynette, one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Harry and Carolyn Barnard of Bynum, Texas; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Kala Massey of Hobbs; three grand children, 2 step grandchildren, 3 great-grand children and several nephews and nieces.
