Monte Mayfield

Mr. Monte H. Cotton Mayfield beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and mend passed away in Hewitt, McLennan Co., Texas on Saturday, December 9th at the age of79. Mr. Mayfield had been a resident of Hobbs, New Mexico for 55 years. He was born in Midland, Texas on April 17, 1927 to John Franklin and Virginia Dare Acker Mayfield. He was raised and educated in Midland and Odessa where he attended Midland High School. In 1944 he joined the Navy and was sent into service on the D.S.S. Duluth where he served during World War II. He was ranked MAM 3rd Class and received the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 2 stars, the American Area Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After the war he married B. Carol Watson daughter of William Jesse and Mae Watson in 1948 and had two daughters, Connie and Kate. The Mayfields moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1952 where they resided and raised their family.

Mr. Mayfield worked in the oil industry and was employed by Continental Oil Company and a member of the American Legion. He was an avid music lover and played several instruments including the piano, guitar and violin. He was also an accomplished artist including drawing, painting, woodworking and jewelry making. He had an insatiable appetite for reading and was a grand storyteller. He leaves a family who loves and misses him greatly including his wife Carol, his two daughters - Connie R. Sebring wife of Ron Sebring of Bonita Springs, Florida and Beverly K. Kate Ballew wife of Bob Ballew of Casper, Wyoming. He also leaves one sister - Mary Hetherington of Universal City, Texas - and 3 beloved grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild - Candice Sebring-Kelber and her daughter Cameron of Florida, Carrie Ballew-Reese and Drew Ballew both of Wyoming. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Virginia, his stepfather Jesse E. Jack Cecil, and one grandchild Alicia M. Ballew. He will be sadly missed but fondly thought of and remembered forever.
