A funeral service for Monica Najera of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2009, at St. Helena Catholic Church with Father Joseph Pacquing officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Visitation is 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 12, at Chapel of Hope.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Ms. Najera, 30, died November 7, 2009, in Hobbs. She was born March 9, 1979, in Portales, New Mexico.
Monical graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1998. She greatly enjoyed her work as a corrections officer. She had been employed in that capacity since 2005. Monica was a very determined person and always spoke her mind. She liked to dance and make people laugh. Animals were a big part of her life. Monica enjoyed the outdoors. She dearly loved her children, family and friends.
She was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her father, Emiliano Najera of Mexico; a son, Bailey Michael Akins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a daughter, Justice Monique Najera Abernathy of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Salvador Najera of Hobbs and Emilio Najera Jr. of Las Cruces, New Mexico,; three sisters, Juanita Najera of Hobbs, Maria Abernathy of Kansas City, Missouri, and Linda Gutierrez of Hobbs; eight nephews; three nieces; and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria DeLaLuz Torres Najera.
